GARRETT COUNTY DEEP CREEK WATERSHED ZONING APPEALS BOARD - 1 Position

The Deep Creek Watershed Board of Zoning Appeals is comprised of five (5) members and two (2) alternates.  It is the responsibility of the Deep Creek Watershed Board of Zoning Appeals to hear appeals that are made to the Board.

Upon denial of a zoning application by the Zoning Administrator, the applicant may file an appeal with the Deep Creek Watershed Board of Zoning Appeals.  The Board conducts hearings for Special Exceptions, variances, and interpretations, as outlined in the Deep Creek Watershed Zoning Ordinance.

GARRETT COUNTY ETHICS COMMISSION

The GC Ethics Commission is composed of three (3) members appointed by the GC Commissioners.  5 Year Term
 
A primary duty of the Ethics Commission, is to develop procedures and policies for the processing of complaints to make appropriate determinations regarding complaints filed by any person alleging violations of Garrett County Government Code of Ordinances – Chapter 34: Ethics.

GARRETT COUNTY PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT APPEALS BOARD – 1 Position

The Garrett County Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board is composed of three (3) regular members plus one (1) alternate with 5-year term limits – Appointed by the Governor. 

In accordance with Tax Property Article § 3-103 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the Board of County Commissioners will submit a list of three (3) nominations for each vacancy for the Governor’s consideration in making these appointments. Interested individuals in serving on the Garrett County Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board are asked to contact the Board of County Commissioners for consideration of appointment. 

A primary duty of the GC Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board is review property tax assessment appeals.

Note: Opinions previously issued by the State Ethics Commission, which provide that members of local property tax assessment boards, may not be actively engaged in real estate sales or appraisal.

ADULT GUARDIANSHIP REVIEW BOARD – GC – 3 Positions

The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board is comprised of 9 members mandated by the State (attorney rep., a local non-profit Social Services agency professional rep., a physician and psychiatrist, two local citizen rep., a rep. from the local Office on Aging, public health nurse, a GC Department of Social Services rep.). Three-year term limits

The primary duty of the Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board shall be to safeguard the welfare of persons with disabilities. The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board reviews guardianship cases and makes recommendations to the Court to either continue, modify, or terminate guardianship of the person.

GARRETT COUNTY LOCAL MANAGEMENT BOARD – 2 Positions – Commissioner Representative

The GC Local Management Board is composed of fourteen (14) members. Seven (7) members are permanent by office and seven (7) members are appointed by the GC Commissioners for a Three (3) Year Term.

A primary duty of the Garrett County Local Management Board is charged with planning, coordinating, funding, and monitoring interagency services to children, youth, and families. The purpose of this corporation is to promote a stable, safe, healthy environment for all children and families, thereby increasing self-sufficiency and family preservation.
