From the desk of Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers:
On January 1, 2026, around 0430 a.m. deputies with the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of S. Oakhall Drive, Mountain Lake Park, for a check on well-being. Deputies determined that a female inside the residence was being held against her will, and deputies were able to get the female out of the residence to safety. The suspect then barricaded himself within the residence.
Through the investigation, Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, were able obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect, Adam Jeremy Spaulding, 29 years old, Mountain Lake Park, for Extortion, Assault, and False Imprisonment.
A subsequent search warrant for the residence was obtained and after a 14-hour standoff entry was made into the residence, and Spaulding was taken into custody. Spaulding was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center where he is being held awaiting a bond hearing.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by members of the Maryland State Police Special Operations Division, FBI Baltimore Office, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office SORT Team, and Troopers with the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack. Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Southern Rescue responded and stood by to assist.
Sheriff Meyers stated, “I would like to express my gratitude to the allied agencies for their cooperation, which helped bring the investigation to a safe and successful conclusion.”
