Notice of Public Meeting
The Upper Potomac River Commission will meet in regular quarterly session Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at noon at the Upper Potomac River Commission, 528 Maryland Avenue, Westernport, Maryland. The meeting is open to the public.
The agenda for the meeting is:
- Review of Waste Treatment Plant Operations
- Review of Commission Finances. This will include a proposed increase of the amount the Commission charges for treatment of municipal wastewater to the Twon of Westernport, the Town of Piedmont, the Allegany County Sanitary District, the Town of Luke and all other customers whose municipal wastewater is treated at the Commission’s waste treatment plant. The Commission’s authority to treat wastewater is governed by state law that requires the Commission to charge its customers enough in fees to pay the expenses of the waste treatment plant. The Commission does not bill end users directly. It estimates that the increase to the towns and other agencies will be equivalent to an increase of $ 6.00 per month per Equivalent Dwelling Unit, but the final amount will be determined at the meeting after review of relevant cost data.

The commission reserves the right to conduct part of the meeting in closed session upon the vote of a majority of the commissioners to consider any matter that may be considered in closed session under § 3-305 of the State General Provisions Article of the Maryland Code. It is anticipated that the Commission will meet in executive session to discuss employee contract negotiations.
