National Correctional Officers Week

National Correctional Officer's Week is May 5-11, 2024.

Since 1984, the first full week of May has been recognized as National Correctional Officers Week. This is an important opportunity to give thanks and acknowledge the courage and heroism it takes to work as a Correctional Officer. Correctional Officers are hidden behind the Detention Center walls and often forgotten for their daily commitment to professionalism in the face of a difficult and often dangerous work environment.

Sheriff Meyers and the Detention Center Administrative Staff want to thank all our Correctional Officer’s past and present who have given years of service to Garrett County. Their commitment and loyalty are commendable not just during National Correctional Officer Week, but every single day.

The Garrett County Detention Center is staffed with 26 certified Correctional Officers who work 24/7/365 protecting the public while providing a safe, secure, and well-managed environment for staff, visitors, and those in our custody
