Garrett County Cooling Center Information

The Garrett County Department of Emergency Management continues to monitor the current heat conditions and remains prepared to assist residents in need of relief from the higher than normal temperatures.

At this time, the requests for cooling centers has been minimal. However, Emergency Management is actively handling individual requests for assistance and is coordinating closely with the Garrett County Department of Social Services to further address needs as they arise and ensure that residents in need receive assistance.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain warm throughout the rest of the week. Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions to stay safe:
   •    Stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible.
   •    Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
   •    Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
   •    Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
   •    Check on elderly neighbors and those without access to air conditioning.
   •    Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
