Garrett County Seeks Public Input on Crellin Street Sidewalk Improvements

Garrett County is inviting residents and stakeholders to participate in a public input meeting and community survey to help guide potential improvements to sidewalks along Crellin Street.

The existing sidewalks in the Crellin area are in poor condition and present challenges for safe and accessible pedestrian travel. Garrett County is beginning the early planning phase of a potential project and is seeking community input to better understand needs, priorities, and the appropriate level of investment.

A Public Input Meeting will be held:

Thursday, April 30, 2026
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Crellin Community Center
1859 Hutton Road, Oakland, MD

Community members are encouraged to attend, learn more about the project area, and provide feedback on potential improvement options and associated costs. Initial results from the community survey will be shared during the meeting.

Residents can also participate by completing an online survey at:

“No decisions have been made at this time,” said Siera Wigfield, Senior Planner for Garrett County. “This is an opportunity for the community to help shape what this project could look like and ensure we are making informed, responsible investments in infrastructure.”

The project area includes Crellin Street and surrounding connections near Crellin Elementary School and the Youghiogheny River corridor, where pedestrian access, safety, and long-term resilience are key considerations.

This effort will:

  • Evaluate options to improve pedestrian infrastructure
  • Review planning-level cost estimates and potential phasing
  • Help determine the appropriate level of investment based on community priorities

Input gathered through this process will inform future design, funding applications, and project development. As with many infrastructure projects, implementation would likely depend on securing state or federal funding and will require additional design, environmental review, and coordination.

All members of the Crellin community are encouraged to participate.
