Garrett County has released the Draft Fork Run Recreation Area Master Plan for public review and is inviting residents, trail users, recreation partners, and other interested community members to provide feedback.
The Master Plan provides a long-term framework for improvements at Fork Run Recreation Area, with a focus on improving the existing trail system, enhancing the user experience, reducing long-term maintenance needs, and identifying a practical pipeline of projects that can be advanced as funding becomes available.
Virtual Public Outreach Session – September 17
Garrett County will also host a virtual public outreach session on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at noon via Microsoft Teams.
Siera Wigfield with Garrett County Planning and Sarah Walters with Penn Trails will provide an overview of the planning process, walk through the major recommendations and proposed improvements, and answer questions about the draft plan.
The session is intended to provide an accessible lunchtime opportunity for anyone interested in the future of Fork Run to learn more about the plan before submitting comments.

Public Comments
The Draft Master Plan will remain available for public review through October 15, 2026. Comments may be submitted through the online public comment form.
Following the comment period, Garrett County and the project consultant will review the feedback received and make appropriate revisions. The final Fork Run Recreation Area Master Plan is anticipated to be presented to the Garrett County Board of County Commissioners on October 20, 2026, for consideration of adoption.
Adoption of the Master Plan will establish a coordinated framework to guide future improvements, pursue grant funding, and support the long-term stewardship of Fork Run Recreation Area.
